BFF Benefit Photo Auction

To benefit the earthquake victims in Sichuan

April 18 – 26, 2009

In May 2008, Sichuan Province in western China was hit by an earthquake. Professor Xiao Wang, honorary member of BFF (Bund Freischaffender Foto-Designer / German Association of Freelance Photographers), initiated a fundraising campaign with help from BFF members. More than 300 works have been donated for the auction, resulting from the many contacts of the BFF, as well as from the efforts of individual members who in the past few years have built up an exchange with Chinese photographers and universities. Proceeds go toward building a school destroyed in Xu Jia Zhen in Sichuan Province. This school project in Sichuan was arranged by the Shanghai Charity Foundation. The BFF recognizes Norbert Moos for his generous assistance in this project; he arranged for the exhibition and auction of photographic works to take place at the Forum für Fotografie in Köln.

The submitted work has been curated by Simone Klein (Sotheby's) — a group of 135 high-caliber photographic works will be auctioned. The works show a wide range of photographic positions by BFF members from the last 40 years. Among the photographers are newcomers as well as well-known names in the art market such as Dieter Blum, F.C. Gundlach, Thomas Höpker, Herlinde Koelbl, Walter Schels, and Oliviero Toscani. The works to be auctioned consist of individual works as well series.

The auction will take place on Sunday, April 26, 2009, at 12 noon, and will be conducted by Prof. Henrik Hanstein from Lempertz auction house.
